We were recently visited by an ‘original’ Austin Mini. When we parked it next to our Fiat 500 (another micro car of the 60’s in it’s original guise) we were struck by just how much ‘small’ cars of today had grown!
The modern version is packed with technology to keeps it’s occupants safe, warm and entertained. Whereas the Mini had a heater that barely warmed up, brakes that struggled to slow it and, “what’s an airbag’?
The tyres also have had to grow to cope with all the extra bulk and power, the Mini shown is on the later 12 inch variant but the chubby Fiat is on wider 15 inch tyres.
Does this make the Fiat any better a car? It is certainly more reliable but, more fun? You decide.
