Wheel Alignment: What, Why and Where!

February 1, 2019 by tyrz

There are many things to be considered when maintaining your vehicle, with tyre pressure, tread, oil levels, screen wash and fuel often springing to mind to ensure that it performs safely. An aspect not always on people’s radar however, is wheel alignment (or tracking as it’s also known), which is a vital part of car maintenance that should not be underestimated.

Tyres and wheels can easily become misaligned due to a variety of reasons such as road conditions, hitting a big bump or even driving habits. Having incorrectly aligned tyres can affect much more than what many people imagine including, fuel efficiency, tyre performance, vehicle handing and manoeuvrability so, it’s important to ensure that your vehicles’ wheels are set to the optimum position.

Purchasing a quality set of tyres often comes with a cost that no one really likes to pay so, it’s worth making sure that you’re getting as much out of your new purchase as possible! Opting for wheel alignment following your tyre fitting service will guarantee that your new tyres are placed correctly and are not prone to excessive wear, therefore lasting longer.

Not only do tyres wear at a quicker rate if they’re not correctly aligned but, your safety can also be put at risk. Poor cornering and handling can be expected with mis-aligned tyres, particularly in cold, icy and wet conditions. In addition to this, your vehicle may tend to steer to one side, making driving hard work!

At tyrZ, we have invested in the Hunter Hawkeye System at both our Bollington and Congleton depot, and are confident that it serves our customers well. Its state-of-the-art optical alignment uses cameras to obtain live readings on all four wheels, recording numerous angles including toe, caster and camber. Thanks to this fantastic piece of equipment, we are able to thoroughly align your car and get you safely on the road.

To have the alignment checked on your vehicle and receive honest recommendations for any adjustments necessary, contact us at tyrZ Bollington: 01625 560560 or tyrZ Congleton: 01260 276276.
