When tyrZ was established we were based in the sleepy village of Wildboarclough in the middle of the very beautiful Peak District. With it’s elevation of 1600ft you can get some spectacular views! You can also get a lot of weather particularly in the winter season!
It got to the stage in the winters of I think 2007 and 2008, when the snow drifts were particularly bad, that I would find myself in my old four wheel drive Audi collecting tyres from our store in the hills and delivering them to our mobile vans down in Macclesfield.
The only alteration I had made to the car was the fitment of cold weather (winter) tyres. Before fitting them the car, for all its four wheel drive capabilities, just wanted to go sideways (and believe me I did give it a go and it was quite good fun but not when you need to deliver tyres!) After fitting the winter tyres the car performed like it was driving on dry tarmac and quite disconcerting when you pass a stranded snow plow!!
Since then we have tested winter tyres at the Snow Dome in Tamworth where we drove a Jaguar up and down the ski slope. We have driven BMW’s on the winter testing grounds in Ivalo in Finland (home of Nokian Tyres, one of the finest winter tyre manufacturers). All good fun but, most importantly, has given us the confidence to answer when asked if “winter tyres are worth buying”, that it is “a no brainer”.
We have them fitted to our vans all year round and, as you can see from the picture, enable us to get to most inhospitable places. We find that they wear no quicker than an equivalent summer tyre.
So whatever you drive winter tyres will improve the safety of your vehicle in temperatures below 7 degrees (not just snowy). Large four wheel drives will benefit hugely as the added weight (and I quote an Audi Q7 driver) will turn the vehicle into a “3 tonne sledge” without them!!!
We offer a vast array of manufacturers so can find them to suit whatever vehicle and budget you have. We offer storage of your summer tyres if you need it.
We are huge advocates (you may have noticed) so give us a call to find out more!
